The popularity of leasing has put many auto manufacturers into the used vehicle market, whether they want to be or not. And one of the ways they have responded to the challenge to sell those off-lease cars is by instituting certified pre-owned vehicle programs. In the midst of a hotly competitive market, Honda's Acura luxury vehicle division has announced an improved pre-owned vehicle program available exclusively at Acura dealers throughout the United States.

The new Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle program raises the inspection criteria and warranty coverage above the previous Acura Preferred Pre-Owned Vehicle program level, making it one of the most comprehensive Certified Pre-Owned programs in the industry.

The previous 75-point inspection has been replaced by a more stringent 150-point inspection, covering virtually every mechanical system from engine to door locks. Fit and finish -- inside and out -- are inspected carefully. The new program continues to provide a 12-month/12,000-mile limited warranty on top of any existing new-vehicle warranty, along with customer care benefits, including roadside assistance. In addition, Certified Pre-Owned customers will now receive a powertrain warranty that provides seven-year or 100,000-mile protection from the original new-car date of purchase. The limited warranty offers this extensive coverage with no deductible and also can be transferred with the vehicle.

"With significant increases in inspection and warranty, the new certification program gives pre-owned car buyers a greater sense of security," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president, Acura Division. "These measures will help ensure an excellent Acura ownership experience, even the second time around."
